Same product. Same spec. Two very different pages.
A one-to-one SEO + AEO gap analysis fought at SKU level rather than template level. The analysis that sits underneath the Organic Gap Report we offer every new ecommerce account.
Four numbers that define the method.
Two retailers, the same product, a persistent ranking gap, and no explanation from the category page down. What the winning page did that the losing page didn't — at the level of the individual SKU.
Head-to-head against a direct rival — the same Samsung NVMe SSD, the same specifications, two pages fighting for the same query.

Two retailers. The same Samsung NVMe SSD. Near-identical specifications. A persistent ranking gap that nobody could explain from the category page down — because everyone was looking at the wrong layer.
The problem with most PDP competitive analysis is that it compares templates rather than pages. It asks: does this page have a title tag? Does it have a meta description? Does the template support structured data? All of those questions can be answered at the template level without looking at a single product page.
The questions that explain ranking gaps are different. Which attributes did each page actually publish — not which attributes the template supports, but which ones the product team filled in? Which page could answer the questions a buyer types before purchase, in the format a search engine or answer engine can extract? Which page was actually receiving internal link equity, and how much?
Those questions are only answerable at SKU level, against a specific competitor page, with data rather than a checklist. That is the analysis this engagement produced — and the methodology it codified into a workbook that now runs as the standard Bee Online teardown.
- Product — Samsung NVMe SSD · identical SKU
- Competitors — Two Indian electronics retailers
- Ranking gap — Persistent, unexplained from category level
- Prior audit approach — Template-level checklist, no SKU analysis
- Root cause — Spec completeness + answer-block absence
Five dimensions. One workbook.
Each dimension was compared side by side against the direct competitor page for the same SKU. The workbook shows the gap, the cause, and the fix — for every dimension, at every product page the analysis covered.
- 01Dimension One
Spec completeness audit
Which attributes each page actually published, and which it left to a manufacturer image — because a spec inside a JPEG is invisible to a search engine and to an answer engine. Form factor, interface, read/write speed, TBW rating, warranty, compatibility — each attribute mapped against whether it appeared as crawlable text on both pages. The losing page routinely left specifications inside images that no crawler could read.
- 02Dimension Two
Schema coverage comparison
Product, Offer, Review, and AggregateRating markup — side by side, per page. Not whether the template supported schema, but whether the schema was actually present and valid on the product page being compared. The winning page had complete Product schema with price, availability, and review count. The losing page had a partial implementation that omitted offer data and aggregate rating — the two fields most correlated with rich result eligibility.
- 03Dimension Three
Answer-block presence
Whether each page could answer the questions buyers ask before purchase — compatibility questions, installation questions, warranty questions, comparison questions — in a format an engine could extract. The winning page had a structured FAQ section with extractable Q&A pairs. The losing page had the same information buried in unstructured paragraph copy that no answer engine was going to pull from. This dimension is what drives AI Overview eligibility on product pages.
- 04Dimension Four
Inbound internal link count
How much internal authority each PDP was actually receiving — not the theoretical link graph, but the actual count of internal links pointing at each product page, from which pages, and with what anchor text. The winning page had consistent internal links from category pages, comparison articles, and a dedicated SSD buying guide. The losing page had the product in the catalogue but was receiving almost no equity from the rest of the site.
- 05Dimension Five
Query-coverage mapping
The exact query set each page could and could not answer — mapped against the actual search volume for those queries. Not which keywords the page was targeting in its title tag, but which questions a buyer could resolve on the page versus which ones they would have to go elsewhere for. The losing page covered transactional queries but missed the informational and comparison queries that precede purchase — leaving those clicks to the competitor.
- Spec completeness — attribute-by-attribute comparison of what each page publishes as crawlable text vs. what lives inside images.
- Schema coverage — Product, Offer, Review and AggregateRating markup — present, valid, and complete on both pages, side by side.
- Answer-block audit — pre-purchase questions mapped to extractable vs. unstructured content, with AI Overview eligibility implications.
- Internal link equity — actual inbound internal link count per PDP, by source page and anchor text.
- Query-coverage map — full query set the page can and cannot answer, with search volume, against the competitor page.
What each dimension tells you.
Five dimensions, each answering a different question about why the same product ranks differently on two pages. Together they explain the gap completely.

The Organic Gap Report — now standard in every new engagement.
The methodology developed from this analysis now runs as the Organic Gap Report at the start of every new Bee Online ecommerce engagement. Before we touch a title tag or commission a piece of content, we run a 1:1 comparison at SKU level against the pages that are outranking you — across spec completeness, schema, answer blocks, internal link equity, and query coverage.
If you are an ecommerce brand with a ranking gap you cannot explain from the category page down, this is where the answer is.
